Katherine's Favorite Immune Boosting Smoothie

Smoothie

4 ingredients | 5 minutes | 190 calories | 5g fat | 29g carbohydrates | 2g fiber | 10g protein

A good source (i.e. meets 19% of daily recommended intakes of: protein (20%), vitamin C (30%), calcium (30%), and vitamin B12 (54%)

Ingredients:

1 ripe banana

1/2c plain kefir (we prefer Lifeway brand)

1.5c plain reduced fat cow's milk (you may want to substitute a plant-based milk for this--we recommend an unflavored plant-based milk)

1/2c washed and sliced strawberries (frozen is also okay--you may want to substitute with another berry like blueberries, blackberries or raspberries)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend well. Divide into two servings. Serve chilled immediately.

A word about kefir, if you're unfamiliar:

Kefir is a cultured dairy product--a probiotic food, meaning it contains live cultures of good bacteria that may support immunity via fostering good gut health. The bottle will typically state how many strains of bacteria are contained in the product. Our favorite brand contains 29-30 billion CFU and 12 different strains of bacteria. It is naturally gluten-free, lactose intolerance friendly and wills stay fresh until the expiration date stamped on the bottle (which is often times 4-5 months away from the date of purchase--always refer to the expiration date and use by instructions on the product of your choice.)
